The Akshyar Initiative 2025
On July 9, 2025, the Women Development Society (WODES) brought together principals, teachers, and community leaders from three schools: Shri Setidevi Secondary School in Dhakshinkali, Shri Kali Devi Secondary School in Lamagaon Hititol, and Shri Mangal Secondary School in Kirtipur. The meeting focused on education policy and the everyday challenges faced by students from low-income and marginalized communities.
The discussion made it clear that government support alone is not enough to close existing educational gaps. Participants emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between government agencies, civil society, and community organizations to create a more inclusive education system. Such cooperation is essential to ensure that all students, regardless of caste, background, or economic status, have equal access to higher education and long-term opportunities.
Based on this shared understanding, WODES introduced the Akshyar Initiative, an ongoing program designed to turn these discussions into practical action. The initiative focuses on reducing educational inequality by providing targeted support to students from underprivileged backgrounds and strengthening cooperation across sectors.
As part of the initiative, WODES implemented activities at Shri Setidevi Secondary School in Dhakshinkali and Shri Kali Devi Secondary School in Lamagaon Hititol. At each school, 15 students received school bags with essential supplies such as notebooks, pencils, pens, and geometry sets. WODES also provided new school uniforms to students in need.
Through the Akshyar Initiative and future programs, WODES continues its commitment to supporting women, girls, and marginalized communities in Nepal, working toward an education system where every child has the opportunity to succeed.
